Past Presidents

Chi Alpha Omega chapter Through the Years

Jamel Ivory Penn (Chartering President) (2001 – 2004)

  • In 2004, Gloria Covington was not only voted as Soror of the Year by the chapter but was also selected as Central Region Soror of the Year. She also received recognition by the state as Teacher of the Year for District 15.

  • A Black History display was created and showcased at both the Palatine Library and Village of Hoffman Estates including black inventors, national leaders and pioneers, as well as highlighting Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority.

 

Gloria Covington (2005 – 2006)

  • Partnered with the Diabetes Association for the Diabetes Expo and the chapter received an award for having the most volunteers working the event.

  • The chapter spearheaded the Car Seat –Saves Lives program in conjunction with the Chicago Basilei Council by donating $1,400 to John H. Stroger Hospital in Chicago. These funds provided infant car seats to needy families.

 

Tony Branch (2007 – 2008)

  • Black Family Picnic & Health Fair featured health and traditional foods as well as provided kits that included information on health issues that impact the African American community.

  • AKAnomics Fair consisted of two sessions: A Financial Planning workshop and a discussion panel on Home-buying.

 

Renita Pettigrew (2009-2010)

  • The chapter participated in multifaceted Black History Celebration that covered several of Alpha Kappa Alpha Platforms including: 1) the screening of Freedom’s Song; 2) Chanda Schwartz and Tony Branch acted in the play “ The Black Wall Street”; 3) Contributed dresses and accessories to the Perfect Prom Project.

  • In 2010, past chapter President, Tony Branch was selected as the recipient of Powerhouse Productions Leadership Award.

 

Renee McMullen (2011 - 2012)

  • In June 2011, with funds in excess of $20K Chi Alpha Omega Chapter became the first chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. to achieve the fully capitalized Educational Advancement Foundation Endowment.

  • Chi Alpha Omega celebrates 10 years of sisterhood and service with Taste the World Soiree in September 2012.

  • In October 2013, the chapter established the Chi Alpha Omega Educational Advancement Foundation Fellowship. The purpose of this Fellowship is to grant awards to scholars and support programs that provide exceptional service to our community.

 

Diana Sweeny (2013-2014)

  • In February 2013, hosted “Our Health is Our Wealth” - the first of an ongoing series of Community Connections events. The newly inducted members, Jasmine Arai, Perry Bradford, Autumn Bryant, Ketty Charles and Kiarra Miles, planned and facilitated the forum.

  • In June 2014, Chi Alpha Omega presents “A Salute to Men” program honoring men making a difference in the community.

  • Presented 2014 Partnership Award for outstanding service with the Second Baptist Church (SBC) of Elgin Youth Ministry. The three year Emerging Young Leaders and GOALS partnership proved invaluable to the youth ministry. The chapter received accolades for monthly workshops, the 2013 career fair, and engaging students in community service.

  • Presented 2014 Community Partnership Award for service to SBC and the community. Our exemplified service to Domestic Violence, Diabetes Awareness, SBC Health Fair, Thanksgiving Baskets Project, Black History Program, Tutoring and our innovative leadership style (bringing multiple organizations together to make a larger impact) was emphasized.

 

Sheila T. Reed (2015-2016)

  • 2015-2016, partnered with Harper College to host the ASCEND™ program to mentor High School students with college and career preparation.

  • 2015-2016, partnered with Ron O’Neil elementary school in Elgin for Playground 1908™ service project.  Cleaned up the playground, spread mulch, and planted flowers in front of the school.

  • Partnered with Village of Hoffman Estates to collect non-perishable food items, hats, gloves and scarfs during the Martin Luther King Jr., (MLK) Day of Service. Distributed donation to local food pantries.

  • Served as 2016 Chairman for the Central Regional Conference Backpack Service Project.  Partnered with other Chicago area chapters, collected and distributed over 750 backpacks and 5100 school supplies to NW Suburban and Chicago Schools.

  • December 2016 presided over the installation of 7 new members into Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. Chi Alpha Omega Chapter, Kristina Brown,  Sara Cruse, Tracy Edwards, Candace Green, Maya Lane, Allyson Reed, April Wells.​

Patricia Miles (2017-2018)

  • 2017, awarded 3rd place award for the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. “She Deserves a Stamp” Project for securing signatures required to petition a stamp in honor of the Sorority’s Principal Founder, Ethel Hedgeman Lyle, in the Central Region of the Sorority.

  • 2017, received 1st place Launching New Dimensions program award for service efforts in Target II – Health Promotion.  This achievement was Chi Alpha Omega chapter’s first time winning an award at the Regional level for programs of service

  • 2018, received 2nd place programs of service award for HBCU for Life initiative and Building Your Economic Legacy Initative.

  •  2018, received 1st place programs of service award for Global Impact initiative where we donated pillow case dresses for girls in Haiti, donated eye glasses to the Lions Club, and donated shoes to Soles for Souls. 

  •  2018, honored as Chapter Soror of the Year for second consecutive year. 

Klade Moore (2019-2020)

  • 2019: Launched a new chapter logo. 

  • 2019: Presided over the installation of seven (7) new members into Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated® Chi Alpha Omega Chapter.

  • 2019: Voted as Chapter Soror of the Year.

  • 2019-2020: Received eight (8) regional awards for Target I - HBCU for Life, Signature Program - #CAP℠, Target II - Women's Healthcare and Wellness, Target III - Building Your Economic Legacy, and Target IV - The Arts! 

  • 2020: Successfully transitioned the chapter to 100% virtual operations during a global pandemic

Corunda T. Pruitt (2021-2022)

  • 2021 - Presided 100% virtually during global pandemic.

  • 2021-2022 Chapter membership increased by approximately 30%.

  • 2021-2022 - Awarded $11,000 in scholarships to area high school students.

  • 2021-2022 - Received sixteen (16) Regional awards for International Programs.

  • 2022 - Voted as Chapter Soror of the Year.

  • 2022 - The chapter was highlighted in the West African Writers publication for donation during Global Impact Day.

  • 2022 - Appointed to the Central Region Think Tank Committee.

  • 2022 - Presided over the installation of thirteen (13) new members into Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated® Chi Alpha Omega Chapter.

  • 2022 - In June, transitioned the chapter back into 100% in person operations.
