President's Message

For nearly a century, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc has been recognized as the premier organization dedicated to the social, educational, and economic advancement of African Americans and community at large. Founded January 15, 1908 at Howard University, the sisterhood has a rich heritage of leadership development and community service. Our members represent diverse professional backgrounds but share a common interest and dedication of service to all mankind. Our national headquarters is located in Chicago, Illinois and as an international organization Alpha Kappa Alpha is comprised of more than 900 chapters and over 180,000 college trained women around the world.
Chi Alpha Omega Chapter, established April 14, 2002 in Schaumburg, Illinois, serves the northwest suburban Chicagoland communities and has had a continual and increasing positive impact in this area in the short time since its inception. To date, Chi Alpha Omega Chapter has awarded over $20K in scholarships to local high school seniors. Annually the chapter participates in the Black History Month Celebration at Schaumburg Prairie Center for the Arts in support of Power House Productions and the Martin Luther King Day Community Breakfast in conjunction with the Village of Hoffman Estates. In addition, our chapter has sponsored theatre outings for Hesed House residents, provided much needed support to local families during the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays, and conducted food, coat, and clothing drives to support Wings Shelter. One of our signature programs, "AKA Teens" is a teen enrichment program which provides a forum for addressing challenges that young adults face in today's society while providing tactics and training on how best to deal with these issues. We are pleased to announce that the 2007 sessions for AKA Teens will be open to both male and female participants.
During the coming year, Chi Alpha Omega will focus on education based enrichment programs, community programs that strengthen and empower the family unit, and promotion and development of business initiatives for entrepreneurial excellence within this region.
The Alpha Kappa Alpha target programs will continue to change over time
to meet the current needs of the international communities that we serve but our core values and mission have been preserved for nearly a century. The ladies of Chi Alpha Omega chapter are proud to continue the legacy in serving the Northwest Suburbs of Chicago, Illinois.
